Citywire Latin America Conference and Awards 2023
Have you ever wondered how it would feel to win a Gaviota de Oro at Viña del Mar? Well, at Citywire we don’t work with professional singers, but we do want to know how it feels to be on the main stage in this beautiful city.
That’s why we are so excited to invite you to our Citywire Viña del Mar Retreat taking place on October 10th and 11th, 2023 at the Sheraton Miramar Hotel and Convention Centre in Chile.
All travel and accommodation is covered by Citywire.
What to expect:
- Our annual Citywire Montevideo Retreat is moving to Chile. After some great years in beautiful Uruguay, we have decided to test the waters of the South Pacific Ocean and would like you to be part of it.
- Over the years, we have been bringing together the top fund selectors and international financial advisors in the Latin American markets and we believe we have formed a community of professionals that are top in class.
- Every year has its own issues. 2023 is facing its own challenges, with monetary policy in focus and the probability of a recession that has been long anticipated, will it happen? The best way to find out is by asking the experts and learning how to position your portfolios.
- Citywire’s retreats are a great space for that. Over the course of a day and a half, there will be 10 portfolio managers hosting workshops across a range of asset classes. All fund selectors who register will receive a personalized agenda to attend these due diligence meetings.
- Alongside the workshops, you will hear from keynote speakers who will challenge you to a new way of thinking and panelists who will discuss relevant topics on current market conditions.
- This year we will host our first ever Latin America Wealth Management Awards. A recognition to those who excel in their duties in fund selection and client money management, as acknowledged by their peers.

Are uncorrelated returns possible in liquid markets? The role of liquid alternatives as a diversifier
We have entered a vastly more challenging macro environment. Central banks are now primarily focused on tightening monetary policy to curb inflation, which is at levels not seen in decades. Economic growth is a second-order consideration. One of the key consequences is the breakdown in the bond/equity correlation, which left many portfolios underwater in 2022. This poses challenges for investors relying on traditional balanced portfolios, suggesting a greater reliance on other sources of portfolio diversification. We assess what the current macro environment means for asset allocation and the potential role of liquid alternatives, including our own AIMS Target Return strategy, offering benefits traditional portfolios are unable to access.
Workshop Objective: In this workshop we will explore the main themes driving portfolio construction within AIMS Target Return and strategies that aim to embed diversification outside of traditional markets.

Responsibility is incorporated at all levels of our organization: understanding the factors, risks and opportunities in ESG helps us to be better investors and delivering the investment results our clients expect.

Cash is king – or is it?
High short-term rates following a series of rate hikes and turmoil in the US banking sector earlier this year prompted many to move their money into cash and money market funds. However, investors now have an attractive opportunity to lock in high yields in fixed income as an impending growth downturn raises prospects of rate cuts. In this context, Matt Morgan, Head of Fixed Income, will assess the emerging macroeconomic scenario. He will also explain why an unconstrained and flexible fixed income strategy is key to navigate the period ahead, while also emphasizing the importance of focused credit selection to avoid pitfalls from potential corporate bond defaults.
Workshop Objective: To show why it’s an opportune moment to lock-in high yields and why a flexible approach and credit selection are important for fixed income investments.
