Citywire Wealth Manager Retreat 2025
We are delighted to announce that Citywire’s flagship Wealth Manager Retreat is now open for registration. Our much-loved Retreat will take place on 2 -3 October at the Fairmont Windsor Park, Egham.
Those at the forefront of fund selection and discretionary portfolio management in the UK and Channel Islands are invited to join us to celebrate their profession. We’ve put together an exciting agenda, featuring keynote speakers that have shaken the worlds of media, sport, military and economics. This, as ever, is accompanied by a programme of workshops with leading fund managers, and the opportunity to catch up with both your peers and the Citywire team over a day and a half.
Attendance is strictly by invitation only and delegates participating in the accredited Wealth Manager Retreat can claim up to 8 CPD hours towards the CII / Personal Finance Society member CPD scheme.
By the end of the Wealth Manager Retreat, attendees will be able to:
- Analyse key macroeconomic trends and evaluate their potential impact on asset allocation, investment performance, and client outcomes.
- Explain the key components of the UK and EU’s evolving defence strategy, and the geopolitical and economic implications of developments in this area.
- Evaluate a range of investment strategies from leading asset managers, across a number of asset classes, with greater understanding of each fund’s performance drivers and suitability for client portfolios.
As usual, we have curated a lineup of keynote speakers who will reflect on issues affecting global markets and the world at large.
Opening the Retreat will be Anatole Kaletsky. An economist and journalist, he has written for The Economist, The Times of London and Reuters. He has also provided asset allocation and policy advice to over 800 financial institutions, and will provide an up-to-date macroeconomic worldview based on the most recent research of his firm, Gavekal.
After lunch we will be joined by Tobias Ellwood, a former soldier and veteran parliamentarian who served as chair of the Defence Select Committee. There are few better placed to discuss Europe’s renewed focus on military autonomy and defence spending policy.
After dinner entertainment will be provided by showbiz legend Chris Barrie, whose anecdotes (and impressions!) from his on-screen career, including Red Dwarf and Spitting Image, are sure to have the audience in stitches.
Friday morning we will hear from Dame Laura Kenny, Britain’s most decorated female Olympian. She’ll share lessons on resilience, peak performance, and life after elite sport.
The gala dinner will also include the ceremony for 2025’s Investment Performance Awards. Held in association with Asset Risk Consultants, the awards recognise the companies that have delivered the best risk-adjusted returns for their clients over three years.
The awards cover seven categories, with individual performance awards for cautious, balanced, growth and aggressive portfolios, and awards in recognition of the best small, medium and large private client investment management firms.
After a memorable event in 2024, we anticipate another lively and meaningful Wealth Manager Retreat, and look forward to welcoming the investment management landscape’s best and brightest to the Fairmont Windsor Park. Register now to secure your place.

Tobias Ellwood
Tobias Ellwood is a former British Army Officer, senior UK parliamentarian and now writer and commentator on National Security & Foreign Policy issues.
As a former Foreign Minister, Defence Minister and Chair of the House of Commons Defence Committee he’s been at the forefront in helping shape & critique UK security and foreign policy – in ever increasingly turbulent times.
During his time in frontline politics, he met Heads of State and senior officials from around the world, addressed international summits and attended COBRA & National Security Council meetings here in the UK.
Tobias is a dual UK/ US national (born in New York due to his father’s posting at the UN). He grew up in Germany and Austria and has visited almost 100 countries across the globe. He served in the Army with Tim Peake, worked in the Middle East with John Kerry and even had a private cup of tea with President Putin in Baku!
Tobias comes from a family of teachers that’s helped his appreciation for cognitive thought. Learning how to think – not what to think. By character he is an interventionist – throughout his life he’s sought to step forward to make a positive difference and challenge the status quo.
Twice in his life – he had to confront terrorism. Firstly, losing his brother in the Bali Bombings in 2002 and secondly his involvement in the Westminster Bridge attacks in 2017. These experiences have very much influenced his political outlook and focus.
During his time in Parliament, he gained a reputation for having the courage to speak out and challenge Party positions especially when they went against the nation’s interest. In all the work he now does – there’s a common theme of encouraging Britain to play a greater leadership role, as our world enters a dark and ever more complex chapter.

Chris Barrie
Chris Barrie is a much-loved British actor, impressionist, and presenter, best known for his iconic television roles and distinctive voice work. To millions, he’s instantly recognisable as Arnold Rimmer, the hilariously pompous hologram from the cult sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf, and as Gordon Brittas, the well-meaning but infuriating leisure centre manager in BBC1’s The Brittas Empire.
Chris’s television career took off in the 1980s when he joined the ground-breaking satirical series Spitting Image as one of its principal voice artists, lending his talents to a host of characters including his Majesty King Charles and Paul Daniels. This voice work helped cement his place in the British comedy landscape.
His acting credits span far beyond Red Dwarf. He’s appeared in Blackadder III, Happy Families, and Zastrozzi, and took the lead in the national theatre tour of Totally Foxed. On the big screen, he featured in both Tomb Raider films as Angelina Jolie’s trusty butler, Hilary.
Beyond acting, Chris has established himself as a popular presenter and engineering enthusiast. His Discovery Channel series Massive Engines, Massive Machines, and Massive Speed showcased his love for all things mechanical. This passion continued with Britain’s Greatest Machines for National Geographic, where he explored the UK’s rich engineering heritage with enthusiasm and humour. His work in this space earned him an Honorary Doctorate of Technology from Loughborough University in 2010.

Laura Kenny
Dame Laura Kenny is Britain’s most successful female Olympian and the first British woman to win gold at three consecutive Olympics. With 6 Olympic medals (5 gold, 1 silver), 7 World titles, 14 European titles, and 2 Commonwealth titles, she is a velodrome legend.
Rising through the ranks as a teenager, she made her Olympic debut at London 2012, winning two golds, and repeated the feat at Rio 2016. After giving birth in 2018, she returned for Tokyo 2020, overcoming setbacks to win the Madison and become Britain’s most decorated female Olympian.
After retiring in March 2024, Laura stepped straight into the media landscape, working with the BBC throughout the Paris Olympics.

Infrastructure: the backbone of both society and your income portfolio
As the world transitions to a low-carbon economy and demand for essential infrastructure surges, infrastructure has emerged as a compelling investment opportunity. The asset class provides long-term, predictable income via infrastructure that is critical to modern society – infrastructure ranging from renewable energy to social housing.
Infrastructure also offers attractive risk-adjusted returns, benefiting from inflation-linked cash flows and government-backed revenues. With growing policy support for infrastructure investment and an increasing need for private capital Gravis is well-positioned to capitalise on these trends while delivering stable, long-term, and predictable income to investors.
Now is the time to invest in the assets that power the economy, secure, essential, and built for the future.
Workshop Objectives:
1. Identify at least three key reasons why infrastructure investments are particularly attractive for income investors.
2. Explain how inflation-linked revenues from infrastructure assets can serve as a hedge against inflation and compare the stability of these returns with traditional income sources like bonds and dividends.
3. Evaluate current investment opportunities in the renewable and clean energy infrastructure sector and identify at least two ways these investments can provide both high yield and portfolio diversification.
Company Profile: Investment ideas for the long run
When we talk about the long run at Gravis, we’re not just thinking about returns. The way we see it, the most reliable returns are linked to the assets that are most vital to society and the economy.
That’s why we invest in things that will be needed for many years to come. Building on our investments in hospitals, schools and student accommodation we’ve expanded into increasingly important areas, such as renewable energy generation, supported living, logistics and data centres, to name but a few.
Gravis gives investors access to the more stable and predictable side of many of today’s most exciting themes – from infrastructure and real estate to clean energy and digital assets. Whatever the sector, and whether it’s through public or private markets, the result we aim for is reliable, long-term income for all our investors.
