Combined with hidden correlations, a new era of geopolitics and ongoing macro challenges, this creates a changing dynamic for managing equity portfolios. In his presentation, Andrew will explore how to approach such an environment, why managing risk in big tech is so important, but also why diversification will be critical in the year ahead

Investing in the US: A diversified portfolio for a broadening market
Over the past decade, US equity markets have been dominated by a few mega-cap growth companies whose recent share price performance has been further bolstered by the expectation that they will benefit from AI advancements. This trend may not persist over the coming decade due to elevated valuations, limited AI-driven revenue, increasing competition, and a narrowing growth premium versus the rest of the market. Moreover, the investment backdrop - consisting of low interest rates and subdued inflation - that supported the outperformance of these companies has now transpired. A diversified portfolio of small and mid-cap companies may fare better in an environment characterized by higher interest rates, inflation and geopolitical tensions. This would align with historical trends showing that the performance of the S&P 500 index mirrors that of its equal-weighted counterpart over the long term.
Workshop Objectives: We will explore the extraordinary concentration in the US market and the importance of finding high quality companies that will help build a portfolio that can weather all market environments.
Company Profile: Findlay Park Partners LLP, is an independent investment partnership based in London, specialising in US equities for over 26 years.
From our Investment Philosophy to our culture and team, we believe in a simple and consistent approach to everything we do. Our founder’s philosophy has guided our team for over 26 years, and is aligned to our purpose; to deliver compelling compound returns for our investors, measured over decades.
The American Fund is our only fund and our sole focus. As an active manager, we aim to invest in a diversified portfolio of high quality, durable companies. Our starting point when considering any company for investment is not ‘how much can we make if we get it right’? but rather ‘how much could we lose if we get it wrong?’ We aim to control the downside risk in each investment, to keep compounding at an attractive rate for our investors.

Dividends and Defence: Two ETFs for 2025
• Strategic Assessment of 2025’s Market Landscape: The S&P 500 sits near historic high valuations, and that doesn’t tell the full story. So, where can investors look for confidence in growth or profitable value opportunities? An analysis of two areas of the global stock market which may be primed to benefit from the new administration.
• Mid & Small-Caps, Dividends and Value: These segments of the market sit at historic valuation spreads to the market. Cheap valuation, combined with a the potential for income and capital appreciation. With inflation stabilising and central banks potentially easing policy, we believe smaller companies with strong balance sheets and reliable dividends may be well-positioned for growth.
• Global Aerospace & Defence: With rising geopolitical tensions, and government commitments to military modernisation, the aerospace and defence sector could stand to benefit significantly. Strong order backlogs and increased investment in next-gen technology should enhance long-term growth prospects. Increased global defence spending, particularly from Europe and Asia, remains a top conviction.
• Know What You Own: Since both strategies are ETFs, investors have the opportunity for thorough due diligence. What percentage of small-caps are unprofitable? Which defence contractors are included, and what is the rationale behind their selection? Fully transparent investment methodologies and holdings will be clearly articulated.
Workshop Objectives:
• Discuss why and how to adjust US Core positions.
• Outline historic opportunities in small/mid-cap & value stocks.
• Articulate fund selection & weighting methodologies.

Unlocking Relative Value in European High Yield
The European High Yield market one of Europe's most competitive asset classes Europe has to offer. Our approach focuses on bottom-up credit selection, incorporating ESG factors, to identify relative value opportunities. We aim to balance risk and reward across the full spectrum, maintaining a diversified portfolio with a beta of approximately 1.15 and positive alpha. This positioning allows us to potentially outperform in market rallies while maintaining resilience during downturns.
The current economic landscape, characterized by normalizing inflation and signs of economic stability, suggests a potential soft landing scenario. Despite this, yields in the European High Yield market remain close to historical highs, offering attractive risk-adjusted returns. Our STARS approach to ESG integration aims to align performance with sustainability considerations, addressing evolving investor preferences.
Workshop Objectives: Participants will discover our Nordea 1 - European High Yield Stars Bond Fund's advantages, understand how our STARS approach drives performance and ESG integration, and explore current market opportunities alongside our strategy for capitalizing on them.

Unlocking Potential: Navigating the Current Private Debt Market
Over the past decade, the European private debt market has experienced remarkable growth. This expansion is driven by tighter bank regulations following the 2008 financial crisis, a prolonged low-interest-rate environment, and a growing trend of businesses seeking more customized and flexible capital solutions. These factors create a prime opportunity for investors to step in.
The European private debt market not only offers attractive growth potential and diversification benefits but also provides essential capital to businesses across Europe. As the market continues to evolve, innovation is on the rise, fuelled by increasing investor appetite for diverse debt structures.
However, investors must navigate the landscape attentively, considering risks related to credit quality, regulatory changes, and economic conditions. By doing so, they can capitalize on the promising opportunities within this dynamic market.
Workshop Objectives: To equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of the European private debt market, exploring its rapid growth, emerging opportunities, and associated risks.

Global Equities – A lifecycle approach
In a world of ongoing geopolitical and economic uncertainty, we remain focused on using our established investment process to generate alpha through bottom-up stock picking. In this presentation, Paul Schofield, Head of Global Equities, and Thomas Gander, Investment Director, will discuss how we believe that our approach of diversifying across a broad range of companies from different sectors and stages of their Life Cycle will allow us to consistently identify superior shareholder wealth creating companies with undervalued long-term cash flows.
Workshop Objectives: We will discuss:
• The analytical advantage of a Shareholder Wealth Creation assessment and valuation approach
•How Life Cycle balance in portfolio construction drives idiosyncratic risk and returns
•How the Life Cycle can be applied across Regional and Global Equity Portfolios
Company Profile: At Royal London Asset Management, we do things a little differently.
As an integral part of customer-owned mutual Royal London, we put our clients at the heart of what we do, with a longer-term approach to generating investment returns.
We’re committed to delivering outstanding active asset management value for clients around the world.
It’s asset management excellence with a longer-term perspective.

Company profile - 120 words
At Royal London Asset Management,

Amid a record concentration in US equities, where can diversification be found?
With a historically high concentration in US equities and near-record valuations, investors should consider broadening their diversification strategies.
Within equities, emerging markets present attractive opportunities, supported by positive growth dynamics and favourable valuations, while Europe may face heightened sovereign risk.
Additionally, market-neutral strategies offer compelling, uncorrelated alternatives to equities, leveraging valuation dispersion to capitalise on both long and short opportunities.
Workshop Objectives: Discuss the opportunities in emerging markets and market-neutral strategies, and learn how the integration of extensive data sets with state-of-the-art AI technology can drive the generation of robust, long-term alpha.
