Citywire Sustainable Investment Retreat 2024
This is your invitation to join us for the Citywire Sustainable Investment Retreat, held at South Lodge, Sussex, on 9-10 May.
Building on two successful years of the Citywire Impact Retreat, this is our third annual celebration of the sustainable investment profession, coming at a time when pragmatism in investment selection is as important as ever. In the year that Citywire celebrates its 25th birthday, we have never had quite so much to talk about when it comes to ESG risk and the impact of investment decisions on all stakeholders, including both people and planet.
The industry is still undergoing a transition in regulation, and as such, our new brand will give all participants a wider remit on the green spectrum to explore the latest developments in the space, in a year that sees labelling firmly under the microscope.
The agenda will include a number of leading fund houses reflecting on how they’re navigating the ever-changing sustainable investment landscape. We will explore the latest sustainability trends, the core drivers behind them, and what they mean for portfolios.
As with all our residential retreats, attendance is strictly by invitation only and you will earn up to 8 hours structured CPD.
Over the course of the retreat, attendees will;
- Reassess portfolios in relation to both ESG risk and opportunities to create a positive social and environmental impact.
- Engage with a variety of sustainable investment strategies to discuss how they are navigating the current landscape.
- Deepen their understanding of regulatory developments in the sustainable investment space, including the FCA’s Sustainability Disclosure Requirements.
We will shortly be announcing our full programme of keynote speakers and workshop sessions with leading fund managers, so please register today to secure your place.
We very much hope you can join us for an event which will help us drive the sustainable investment conversation forward once more, and help you position portfolios for what is to come.
With best wishes

Now is the time for impact
With much of the market narrative focused on interest rates, geopolitics and elections, solving our biggest social and environmental problems has taken a back seat in the last couple of years. However, the need for investments that can generate a positive impact to society and the environment, as well as strong financial returns, has never been greater. In many cases, this has created attractive valuations in companies that will benefit from the structural need for long term impactful investment. We will explore M&G Investments’ approach to Impact investing and why we believe now is a fantastic time to be considering this area.
Workshop Objective: Understand how to invest to generate a positive impact on society and the environment, while also generating financial returns.
Company Profile: We have a global network of investment teams that connects world-class research capabilities, and the diverse experience and views of experts across multiple asset classes. We think freely, share ideas and new perspectives to inform better decision-making, fuel innovation and identify investment opportunities for our clients.
We call this Intelligence Connected.
We're part of M&G plc, an international savings and investment business, with the shared purpose to give everyone real confidence to put their money to work.
We offer access to a broad range of capabilities that span both public and private assets, including fixed income, equities, multi-asset, real estate, private credit, infrastructure and private equity.
Globally we manage over £313bn (as at 31 December 2023) on behalf of individual and professional investors including banks, pension funds, insurers, sovereign wealth funds, family offices, charities and advisors.

Investing in the transition to a sustainable future; an innovative and pragmatic approach.
Are best-in-class, positive impact and do-no-harm strategies enough to achieve the transition to the sustainable future targeted by the UN SDGs? In his presentation, Peter Rawlence – Senior Investment Manager of the Pictet-Positive Change strategy – discusses why they aren’t.
The world needs to transition from the old economy to the more sustainable and equitable future targeted by the UN SDGs. It will be challenging and complex but there will be opportunities for investors along the way.

The long term opportunity of Sustainable Investing
Sustainable stocks have strongly re-rated with valuations now looking attractive long-term. Global market conditions have been challenging for sustainable investment over the last couple of years, however the outlook remains supported by robust spending in energy transition and decarbonising the global economy. We pioneered sustainable investment in 2010 and have spent our entire careers understanding the space and developing a focused thematic approach to sustainable investment. In this workshop, we will provide an overview of the Quilter Investors Ethical Equity Fund and the exciting opportunities ahead.

What goes around comes around…
Our approach is underpinned by a belief in the power of 'corporate karma'—the idea that companies that operate with a long-term vision and consider their impact on all stakeholders are the ones that outperform over time. This philosophy has not only guided us through uncertain times and volatile thematic frenzies but has also proven that sustainability is not just a buzzword; it's a critical component of long-term success and strong investment performance. We believe that the consideration of stakeholders pays in unseen ways and we've demonstrated that our investment philosophy can deliver compounding investment returns with lower volatility. Ultimately, we are looking to understand what makes a great company ‘stay great’!
Workshop Objectives:
- Explain what we can do in our client portfolios
- Understand how sustainability can be embedded in the investment process
- Highlight the value of active ownership
Company Profile: We are a leading provider of active asset management, advisory and wealth management services. Recognised as a leader in sustainability. Few investment managers can match the combination of capabilities and global reach that we offer.
This breadth of services across public and private markets allows us to design distinctive solutions for the diverse needs of clients. They look to us to provide excellent long-term investment outcomes, and it is our duty always to act in their best interests. That is a responsibility we take seriously – and we believe that when we succeed for clients, society and the wider world benefit too.
