SELECTOR HARD TALK: Private Markets: Shifting the Core of Investment Portfolios. Insights from the Frontlines…
Private markets are no longer a side allocation, they’re steadily shifting toward the core of modern investment portfolios. Persistent inflation, changing correlations between equities and bonds, and mounting fiscal headwinds are undermining the diversification assumptions that underpinned traditional 60/40 portfolios.* For asset allocators, this is no longer a theoretical debate: portfolios are evolving to integrate both liquid and illiquid alternative strategies more strategically, with far greater attention to liquidity budgets, pacing, and governance frameworks.
Swiss investors, in particular, are moving from opportunistic allocations to more structured, strategic integration of private markets**, rethinking their portfolio construction models while navigating liquidity and operational complexities.
This session will drill down into the practical realities of this shift. How are allocations structurally changing, and how is liquidity managed as exposure grows? How are liquid and illiquid sleeves integrated into coherent portfolio frameworks? What are the red flags investors watch for in manager compensation, transparency, side letters, and conflicts of interest? Where do they currently see the most attractive opportunities, and which strategies are less appealing in the current environment?
We’ll also explore the biggest gaps and innovations shaping the private markets space, from secondary marketplaces and liquidity windows to new transparency and data tools.
The discussion goes beyond “why alternatives” to examine how investors are reshaping portfolios for a more complex and dynamic investment regime.

A New World Order: Trade Finance, Tariff Shifts and Commodities
Since “Liberation Day,” a new world order has reshaped global trade, opening compelling opportunities in commodities trade finance.
Infrastructure buildout, deglobalisation, and green capex are driving a new commodity cycle and fuelling demand for essential materials. Yet the sector remains underinvested and undersupplied with capital. Providing credit to commodity-linked corporates and sovereigns offers attractive short-duration income, strong diversification, and low correlation to traditional yield assets. The Gemcorp Commodities Alternative Products Fund (GCAP) enables investors to capture this opportunity through a semi-liquid structure designed to deliver resilient income and long-term growth.
Workshop Objectives: Introduce participants to commodities credit and trade finance, its characteristics and how it can be used to help to achieve uncorrelated, short duration high income in a potentially changing environment.
Company Profile: Our mission is to redefine emerging markets investing for our clients through the power of private capital. We believe that private markets offer an enlarged investment universe; providing access to more opportunities that generate strong, low correlation returns.
We are an Emerging Markets specialist asset manager, with a focus on private credit. We have grown to over $1bn in AUM and allocated more than $8bn to investments across emerging markets since our inception in 2014. As a signatory of the UN PRI, ESG is integral to our research, investment, and risk management processes. The opportunity in High Yield Structured Credit
Today’s structured credit market is characterised by a diverse range of asset types and instruments. These can be accessed through both public and private markets. The array of options includes asset-backed securities (ABS), collateralised loan obligations (CLO) as well as Significant Risk Transfer (SRT) transactions and other forms of private asset-backed finance such as specialty finance (SF) – two key investment areas emerging from the wake of the Global Financial Crisis. Several long-term structural themes, including the retrenchment from banks, have led to the High Yield part of the Structured Credit market to offer equity-like returns via fixed income-like investments, which we believe will appeal to investors looking for high returns, diversification, and a premium versus traditional high yield fixed asset income.
Workshop Objectives: To demonstrate that High Yield Structured Credit allows us to create diversification whilst generating significant income and compelling risk-adjusted returns by leveraging market inefficiencies via securitising performing collateral, which requires specialized expertise
Company Profile: M&G Investments has been investing for private and institutional clients for over 90 years. Our principles of long-term investing, responsible asset management and active fund management have always formed the basis of our approach.
We consider it our responsibility to strive for long-term, sustainable returns in line with our clients' investment and asset accumulation goals. We find that investors are increasingly striving to align their investments with their environmental and social values. With a whole range of funds, we help to meet this need.
