Citywire North West Forum 2024
We are thrilled to extend our invitation to the upcoming Citywire North West Forum, taking place on November 21, at the elegant Manchester Hall.
This exclusive half day gathering promises to be one of insight, inspiration, and networking, all against the backdrop of the vibrant city of Manchester.
A selection of influential fund managers will join us in Manchester to provide insight on their strategies for navigating the present, and identifying opportunities as we consider the coming years. We will consider the outlook for inflation, which thematic trends will stand the test of time, the effects of the cost-of-living crisis on valuations, and more.
As with all our forums, there is no charge for attending (which is strictly by invitation only) and you will earn up to 3 hours of structured CPD.
Joining us on the day will be Jake Meyer. Jake Meyer is a highly engaging speaker who uses his Mountaineering, Military and Commercial experience to deliver entertaining stories and thought-provoking messages. He is a Leadership Development Consultant, a world record-breaking British Mountaineer, adventurer, speaker and was awarded a BEM in the Queen’s birthday honours 2020.
Over the course of this event, you will:
- Learn how to weave the principles of resilience and determination into investment decision-making.
- Compare and contrast different investment strategies across a variety of asset classes and how they could be applicable to your clients’ needs.
- Gain an understanding of the performance and potential of several key investment funds.
We are very much looking forward to bringing the North West’s wealth management community together again, and on behalf of the entire Citywire team, would like to reiterate how brilliant it would be to have you with us for this event.
Best wishes

Healthcare—Playing Offense and Defense in Uncertain Markets
The Healthcare sector is known for its defensive characteristics, especially in volatile market environments. However, we believe many investors overlook the offensive role that a healthcare allocation can play in investor allocations. We believe that this unique combination of offensive and defensive characteristics is a necessary prescription for ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty. In our view, a business-based approach to investing in the healthcare sector can provide exposure to durable long-term growth opportunities and improve risk-adjusted performance for investors over time.
Workshop objective: During the workshop, learn about the evolution of the healthcare sector, the secular growth opportunities present today, and how investing in healthcare can provide strong risk-adjusted returns over time.

Global bonds: riding a wave of volatility
Geopolitics is never far from investors’ minds and uncertainty over the path of the US economy is equally intense. Matthew Rees, Head of Unconstrained Global Bond Strategies at LGIM, discusses the unusually volatile world of global bonds. Most notably, how does the team adapt to fast-changing market environments? And how much credit and interest rate risk we believe are relevant for differing points of the economic cycle?
With reference to the Legal & General Strategic Bond Fund, Matthew will also discuss:
• Dynamism in duration management
• Why we believe diversifying sources of alpha is key
• Seeking to mitigate downside risks
Workshop Objectives:
• Overview of macro and market outlook for 2024 and 2025
• Understand how diversification of the fund’s asset classes can help manage these challenges
• Describe the breadth of strategies in active fixed income that can be used to gain exposure to the asset class
