Citywire Nordics Retreat 2025
It is our pleasure to invite you to our inaugural Citywire Nordics Retreat 2025, which is set to be one of the biggest ever gatherings of selectors from the Nordics, taking place at the Ellery Beach House in Stockholm on September 25-26.
Building on the experience gathered from previous Citywire conferences across Europe, we have designed a new 24-hour "noon to noon" format to provide selectors with the best possible environment to meet and evaluate new investment ideas, get fresh insights into what top fund managers are doing and give them some valuable context for allocation decisions.
A new sharp and fresh format that makes the very best use of everyone’s time, designed to give both fund managers and selectors maximum value for the time they spend with us.
On the agenda are leading portfolio managers who cover a range of asset classes for our guests to meet and question but we will also provide a great opportunity for selectors to discuss the factors affecting them the most.
Citywire Nordics Retreat 2025 will also host bespoke sessions featuring prominent fund selection professionals offering first-hand tips on best practices in fund selection, bringing our audience precious food for thought to implement in this fast-paced environment.
We look forward to 24 hours of intense idea sharing and interaction within the Nordic fund selection community. We very much hope that you can join us in Stockholm!
The registrations for this event are now closed, if you are interested please get in touch with EuroResearchTeam@citywire.co.uk and we will get back to you if a place becomes available.

Selector Hard Talk
Selectors’ Investment Convictions in the Age of Chaos
“When valuations swing wildly, always focus on the underlying quality – opportunities abound in the chaos”. Warren Buffet
The age of chaos is here. Trump’s chaotic approach to tariffs has continued to hit markets with a sharp surge in volatility, with the VIX hitting its highest level since 2020, and the risk of a Trumprecession’ is still there while the outlook for China and emerging markets for some seems a mix of crisis and hope.
But that’s not all. Geopolitical tensions are intensifying—not only in Europe but also in the Middle East and Asia—adding further strain, meanwhile, public debt levels in the Western world remain alarmingly high, particularly in Japan, where debt has soared to over 260% of GDP, the highest debt-to-GDP ratio in the world.
In the age of chaos diversification is key but…
- What are selectors’ investment convictions? Countless asset classes, investment strategies and investment products… Equity, bonds, multi-asset, volatility trading, absolute return, liquid and illiquid strategies but also, passive and active ETFs and the list goes on and on… so
- What do selectors favour in these turbulent times when the World Uncertainty Index reaches its highest level of this century?
- Where are they currently finding the most compelling sources of alpha? Are there specific regions, sectors, or styles that they believe are underappreciated by the market?
- On the contrary, which sectors, asset classes and investment strategies appear to have less upside potential?
As always, they will boost a combined experience of several decades in fund and manager selection:
- Johanna Juujärvi, Aktia, Finland
- Mikael Löfberg, CapmanWealth, Finland
- Oskar Sandvik, Folksam Asset Management, Sweden
- Thomas K. Skjoldmo, Cenzia, Norway

The ABN AMRO EdenTree Sustainable European Equities Fund aims to achieve long-term capital growth with an income by investing in a diversified portfolio of sustainable European (excluding the UK) companies.

This ethos has benefitted the Fund’s performance since launch, with the Fund outperforming the MSCI Europe, MSCI Europe Value and MSCI Europe Growth indices over this period.
The Fund’s investment process combines bottom-up stock picking with its commitment to sustainable investing. Each potential investment undergoes rigorous fundamental analysis within a value-oriented framework and is screened by our sustainable investment team.

Capture broad and diversified fixed income opportunities while smoothing returns
Global fixed income market volatility and dispersion are rising and are expected to stay elevated. In that context, benchmark relative strategies or those focused on standalone fixed income allocations can be inefficient. Instead, owning a benchmark agnostic, dynamic product that allocates capital to markets and strategies with the best risk-rewards can deliver smoother returns over a market cycle. But navigating investment opportunities in a volatile environment requires a robust, risk-controlled approach and proven expertise. We present our Global Absolute Return Bond fund, which aims to capture multi-strategy opportunities towards solving this problem.
Workshop Objectives:
Understand how the flexibility of being able to invest across different fixed-income segments in one vehicle – such as an absolute return fixed-income strategy – can enable positive return-generating opportunities to be exploited over time and provide diversification benefits.
Company Profile:
BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPP AM) is the investment arm of BNP Paribas. Our aim is to generate long-term sustainable returns for our clients, based on a sustainability-driven approach. A Sword and Shield Approach to Emerging Market Equities
Rob Marshall-Lee, Co-Founder and CIO of Cusana Capital, as he explores the rich investment universe of Emerging Markets (‘EM’). Cusana’s approach is grounded in the belief that long-term investment returns are primarily driven by a select group of exceptional stocks. In EM the quality of companies varies widely. The best companies demonstrate attractive growth rates, strong returns on capital, lower risk, and superior corporate governance. In contrast, poorly managed enterprises often overlook minority shareholders and value creation, and these weaker companies frequently dominate EM benchmarks. Rob will discuss Cusana’s long term, high conviction, investment strategy known as “Sword and Shield”, which is designed to offer clients access to significant capital growth opportunities while shielding them from the typical risks associated with EM equities.
Workshop Objectives:
Explore Cusana Capital’s “Sword and Shield” strategy with Rob Marshall-Lee, revealing how high-conviction investing in quality Emerging Market stocks can unlock growth while mitigating typical EM equity risks.
Company Profile:
Cusana Capital, founded in the UK in 2022 by Robert Marshall-Lee and Jos Trusted, is a partner-owned, independent equities investment business. It manages a concentrated global emerging market equity strategy through two funds: an Irish QIAIF and an Irish UCITS fund. Cusana Capital focuses on long-term investments in companies with strong corporate governance and minority shareholder protection. Their benchmark-agnostic strategy aims for absolute returns from liquid, publicly listed emerging market equities. Their clients primarily include USA and European foundations, pension funds, and consultants. Cusana Capital is authorised by the FCA.

Rising Dividends for Uncertain Times
As the U.S. market reaches record highs, the outlook for investors remains complex. Geopolitical tensions, the impact of tariffs and some of the highest valuations in the past 30 years all add to the uncertainty. At the same time, we believe this is a critical moment for investors to recognise cheaper areas within the broader U.S. market, which signal potential opportunities regardless of the direction the overall market takes from here. First Trust’s largest strategy (which has attracted $16 billion to date in First Trust managed funds globally*) is now available in UCITS format, designed around a quality-driven, rising dividend approach. Many rising dividend strategies screen strictly for historical dividend growth. However, a history of dividend growth does not guarantee that a company will sustain them. We believe a more sensible approach includes both historical dividend growth and earnings growth to screen for high quality companies that may be well positioned to continue to grow their dividends. A company’s ability to reliably increase its dividend can be an indication of its financial strength and discipline. Over the past 30 years, companies that have consistently grown their dividends have demonstrated a higher risk adjusted return. In our session we will highlight two UCITS ETFs built on this methodology: RDVY, which targets U.S. large-cap stocks and SDVY, which focuses on U.S. SMID-cap stocks.
Workshop Objectives:
- Provide a US Macroeconomic Outlook - Evaluate current market conditions and explain why adopting a broader approach could be beneficial
- Highlight Key Opportunities - Explore the potential in U.S. small- and mid-cap companies alongside all-cap value stocks, where attractive fundamentals and dividend growth potential may create long-term opportunities
- Address Common Challenges - Acknowledge the typical pitfalls of value and SMID-cap investing and explain how these strategies are designed to mitigate risks while capturing the potential for sustainable dividend growth.

The Champion's Edge: What Investors Can Learn from Elite Athletes
What do elite athletes and successful investors have in common? More than you might think…both fields demand resilience, focus, discipline, and a long-term mindset. Whether you're on the track or in the markets, success comes from staying the course, managing pressure, learning from setbacks, and trusting that persistence pays off.
So, investors can draw powerful lessons from elite athletes in areas such as avoiding burnout, achieving sustained high performance, managing stress and emotions, building resilience, etc. Like top athletes, successful investors embrace continuous learning, understand the value of both individual discipline and teamwork, and recognize the importance of mental agility. By adopting the strategies used by high-performing athletes, investors can improve decision-making, maintain a healthy work-life balance, and achieve more consistent, long-term success.
In this exclusive session, introduced by Louise Lidgard from Nordnet Bank, Sweden; Carolina Klüft — Olympic gold medalist, three-time World Champion, and two-time European Champion in the heptathlon, who remained undefeated in combined events from 2002 to 2007 — will share her extraordinary journey at the top of elite sport. Drawing from her personal experience, she’ll reveal the invaluable lessons investors can learn from world-class athletes, and what it really takes to build a Champion’Mindset.
