Exploiting fixed income volatility across global credit markets
The rise in geopolitical and economic uncertainty has led to greater levels of volatility across fixed income markets and we anticipate this is set to continue for the foreseeable future. During this session Andy will outline the four key drivers of fixed income markets and discuss how taking an active, global approach could allow investors to maximise the value from exploiting these inefficiencies. In our view, investors could benefit from taking both top-down asset allocation views across global credit markets as well as fundamental, bottom-up views at a company level. We believe that, together, these return drivers could help investors successfully invest in fixed income to help meet either their total return or income needs.
Workshop Objectives:
- Identify the key themes driving global credit markets and whether these are just short-term or long-term factors.
- Define the benefits of a global approach to managing credit mandates relative to a regional, local approach
- Articulate the extent to which the macroeconomic and geopolitical backdrop is reflected in current market valuations and where the opportunities are currently in global credit markets.

BATMMAAN Begins! Navigating the market’s super-stocks and the case for a differentiated approach to quality
2024 was the year of the BATMMAAN stocks. Collectively, Broadcom, Apple, Tesla, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, Alphabet, and Nvidia became the caped crusaders of global markets, capturing investors’ imaginations and driving market performance. But with great performance comes great concentration risk, and these companies now dominate benchmarks. Combined with hidden correlations, a new era of geopolitics and ongoing macro challenges, this creates a changing dynamic for managing equity portfolios. In this presentation, David and Andrew will explore how to approach such an environment, why managing risk in big tech is so important, but also why diversification will be critical in the year ahead. Join us as we discuss where to find the real superhero stocks, and how Columbia Threadneedle’s approach to quality offers a resilient approach amid market uncertainty.
