With available places in high demand, register today to ensure your participation.
There is no charge for attending (which is strictly by invitation only) and you will earn up to eight hours of structured CPD.
Once again, we will deliver a full programme of keynote speakers, a huge selection of workshop sessions with leading fund managers, and of course, the opportunity to network with your peers.
We will be addressing the following learning objectives across the event. During the event, attendees will:
- Acquire valuable insights and strategies on the subjects of business negotiations, persuasion and influence.
- Consider important structural and thematic trends within the macroeconomic landscape, and how this affects clients and consumers.
- Understand the link between political events, social media impact, and financial stability to adapt financial decisions during global election years.
We have a fantastic speaker lineup for this year’s retreat, kicking things off with Wolfgang Münchau. He will present an in-depth analysis of some crucial macroeconomic and geopolitical trends that investors should stay informed about. After lunch we will then be joined by Former President of the National Farmers' Union of England and Wales, Minette Batters. Minette will inform us on how the often overlooked pillar of our economy, agriculture, will drive the green transition.
Finally, we round off the lineup with Graham Cox, an expert on business negotiations, persuasion and influence. He is set to share strategies on effectively influencing and earning the trust of clients and colleagues. His approach integrates scientific principles, relying on the latest research data, and his experience as a senior Crown servant.
Watch out for further updates on our agenda in due course. We very much hope that you can join us in June!

Wolfgang Münchau
Wolfgang Münchau is considered one of the world’s foremost experts on the Eurozone. He is a columnist with The New Statesman. For many years, he wrote the European economic column of the Financial Times. He is known for his in depth knowledge and analysis of the political economy, both in Europe and globally.
A skilled communicator, his views and insights are particularly appreciated by senior corporate leaders as he can take complex situations and scenarios and pare these back to the key issues and relate them to the business audiences.
His book, “The Meltdown Years: The Unfolding of The Global Economic Crisis“, won the prestigious GetAbstract business book award in its original German-language version, Vorbeben (2008). He is the recipient of the 2012 SABEW award for best international columnist.
Together with economist, Susanne Mundschenk, he co-founded and edits Eurointelligence.com, a news analysis service dedicated to providing information and debate about the economics, finance and politics of the Eurozone. The Eurointelligence Daily Morning Newsbriefing is widely considered to be the most incisive daily information sources on the Eurozone. His columns are syndicated to El Pais, Handelsblatt and Corriere della Sera.
He is a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations. In 2014, Wolfgang was the John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellow at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University. He was the recipient of the 2012 SABEW award for best international columnist and the Wincott award for young journalist of the year in 1989.
He has written three other German-language books, “Kernschmelze im Finanzsystem” (Meltdown in the Financial System), “Das Ende der sozialen Marktwirtschaft” (The End of the Social Free-market), and “Makrostrategie” (Macro-Investment Strategy)
Previously, Wolfgang co-founded and served as editor-in-chief of FT Deutschland. He holds Master’s degrees in mathematics and journalism.
Minette Batters
Minette is the Former President of the National Farmers’ Union, a position that she held between 2018 and 2024, where she was the first woman to hold the post. During her tenure, she was responsible for representing 47,000 members of the farming community through a period of change and instability. The issues Minette faced ranged from political turbulence, the after effects of Brexit, and sustainability challenges.
Raised on her father’s tenant farm in Wiltshire, Minette was dissuaded by him from following in his footsteps. Instead, she took a Cordon Bleu course and launched and ran her own catering business for 20 years. However, upon her father’s retirement, she made the decision to take on the tenancy. Upon her election to the NFU (first as Vice-President in 2014, and then as President), she juggled running the farm with her responsibilities at the Union.
Working closely with four different Prime Ministers and six different Environment Secretaries during her period at the helm of the Union, Minette has unique insights into the political landscape and leadership. She was responsible for representing the views of the entire farming community during Brexit negotiations and during the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused unprecedented food shortages. Subsequent challenges she tackled while she was leader included the spillover effects of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which involved price increases for both fuel and produce, and labour shortages. She has been an active campaigner for a thriving rural economy and food standards - notably bringing together a range of chefs, environmentalists, consumer groups and animal welfare experts in a 2020 campaign, which led to over 1 million people signing the NFU Food Standards Petition. She has been included in BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour Power List, and in 2021 was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant to Wiltshire.
Darren Harris
As a child, Darren excelled both in the classroom and on the playing field.
However, his disruptive behaviour continued to be a problem resulting in his exclusion from school.
He managed to turn his life around, first going to University to study Maths, then on to work for a leading IT company. But all along, sport was in his DNA.
He made his debut for the England blind football team in 1996, became captain in 2002, and helped the team qualify a place at the Athens Paralympic Games in 2004.
However, they were barred from taking part, as the other Home Nations besides England, wouldn’t sanction a Great Britain team to play.
Fed up of being kicked around like a political football, and already owning a black belt in judo, he quit his job, switched sports and began training full-time.
He competed at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008.
But plagued by injury leading up to the World Championships in 2010 and World Games in 2011, he finished Judo and returned to football to play at the London Paralympic Games in 2012.
Graham Cox
Graham is the Director of Learning & Development at Boundaries Edge Ltd. He is an international speaker who delivers talks on the topics of Business Negotiations, Persuasion and Influence. To date this has included 26 countries across the Middle East, Asia, North America, South America, Africa and Europe. In addition to public speaking, his role is to draw together experience from staff with backgrounds in intelligence, diplomacy, business psychology and neurology across Fortune 500 companies.
He worked in Exxon and PepsiCo before being selected for various senior operational roles in Her Majesty’s Service. Operating in 24 countries across the globe, in covert operations and strategic negotiations, he had to adapt quickly to extreme situations where effective persuasion and influence was literally a matter of life or death. His highly interactive talk will demonstrate first-hand how the subconscious mind can be influenced. It will then fuse the latest neurological learnings with practical techniques to ethically persuade your prospective clients in order to stimulate long-term professional relationships.

Workshop Objectives:
1) Understand the macro backdrop for UK equities

Sustainable investing in EM – 3 is the magic number. The opportunity to deliver positive outcomes for development, companies and investors
Why is the time right for emerging markets? Historic outperformance, characterised by strong dollar earnings, was overshadowed by stagnation leading to a lost decade for emerging markets. Investment in sustainability is developing as a new global centre of gravity. Priorities are changing: from global, concentrated, and just-in-time sources of supply to local, secure and just-in-case. Emerging markets are better funded and more self-reliant, plus the valuation discount versus developed markets is as wide as it’s been for 20 years. We believe that emerging markets can play an important role in delivering on two key objectives: capital growth and positive environmental and societal progress.
Workshop Objectives: We will explore the prospects of sustainable investing in emerging markets to deliver not just capital growth but also environmental progress and societal benefits amidst shifting global priorities and favorable market conditions.
Company Profile: Premier Miton is a genuinely active investment manager offering a range of funds and investment trusts, as well as a portfolio management service, covering equity, fixed income, multi asset and absolute return investment strategies.
Our clients’ investments with us are actively managed by our different specialist investment teams, who are empowered to employ their own proven and distinctive investment approaches; with the aim of generating good investment outcomes. In total we are responsible for £10.7bn of client assets under management (as of 31 March 2024), split across 18 differentiated investment teams managing 54 investment products (as of 30 Sep 2022).

Fashion or Folly: The Market's New Clothes
The Emperor's New Clothes is an 1837 folktale where a vain Emperor commissions, unbeknown to him, swindlers to make him an outfit. They claim to use fabric which is only visible to the wise. Embarrassed to not be able to see the clothes the Emperor parades the streets in the new 'outfit' and along with the congregation pretends to see his robe for fear of seeming stupid. Until a child says the Emperor isn’t wearing anything at all and he is exposed as naked.
Similarly, is the market going along with the sustainable soft-landing narrative, following consensus, too afraid to consider the possibility that there are fragilities in the system? Whilst it remains possible the market will embrace the naked emperor as fashion, we fear the market has been fooled.
Workshop Objectives: To provide guests with an overview of the risks to which the market has become complacent and the assets within the Ruffer strategy which can support portfolios should this complacency break

We seek to achieve this by maintaining an offsetting balance of growth and protective assets and have achieved a long, successful track record of protecting and growing the value of our clients’ assets. Our approach has been successful through periods of market fragility including the bursting of the dot.com bubble, the credit crisis and covid-19. We aim to continue this success, whatever the future holds.
