Miami Retreat 2023
Good things happen once, great things last forever!
That’s why we are so excited to invite you to our Citywire Miami Retreat for its 10th annual version taking place on April 18th and 19th of 2023 at the Mandarin Oriental.
Over the past 10 years, we have been bringing together the top fund selectors and international financial advisors in the US offshore and LatAm.
We have been through tough markets and easy ones, the rise and fall of giants, a global pandemic, but here we are, still working hard to build a long-lasting investment community.
This year especially has not been easy. We are still facing uncertainty, geopolitical issues in Europe and Asia, political changes in LatAm, and rising interest rates. So, what a better time to connect and hear from the best professionals in the industry on how to navigate markets and generate alpha?
Citywire’s retreats are designed exactly for that. Over the course of a day and a half, there will be 20 portfolio managers hosting workshops across a range of asset classes. All fund selectors who register will receive a personalized agenda of 10 of these due diligence meetings to attend.
Alongside the workshops, you will hear from keynote speakers who will challenge you to a new way of thinking and panelists who will discuss relevant topics on current market conditions.
The full keynote program and manager line-up will be announced in due course.
Best wishes,

Emerging market debt: awake, you make; snooze, you lose
After a challenging 2022, we think there are many reasons for investors to be optimistic about EMD in 2023.
In contrast to the experience of 2022, we believe that external or broader themes, such as inflation, growth, and the impact of rates on returns will offer an improved backdrop for the performance of the asset class. While challenges have grown in the post-COVID world, most EM issuers have proven their resilience and continue to benefit from strong credit metrics (compared to the developed world), which, could stand to benefit in an improving backdrop.
In a universe of around 70 countries that includes both sovereign quasi-sovereign & corporate issuers, we believe there will be plenty of scope to identify attractive opportunities in 2023.
Workshop Objectives: In this workshop we will explore the main themes driving EM markets in 2023 and how investors should look to access the attractive opportunities on offer.

Reasons to be excited about credit: capitalizing on the current market environment
With the U.S. economy expected to slow in 2023 and higher interest rates making borrowing more expensive for businesses, investors could be excused for being cautious about investing in such assets as high yield bonds and leveraged loans. However, there are reasons for investors to be optimistic: investing in private and liquid credit could help portfolios outperform in today’s challenging market environment.
Credit is an appealing asset class that can help investors add income to their portfolio and offer superior risk-adjusted returns without taking on undue risk. We believe that an unconstrainted, relative-value approach to investing in a multi-asset portfolio performing private credit and public debt favors active managers with a proven history of success earned over many credit cycles.
Workshop Objective: Educate our audience about the merits of investing in a diversified portfolio of liquid and private performing credit in a strategy that takes an unconstrained, relative value approach.

Spotlight on commodities: a World in transition
Commodity investing came of age during in the 2000s as the rise of China as an economic powerhouse led to a supercycle that drove commodities to new highs. In the last ten years, commodities lost a lot of their appeal as easy money drove equity markets to new highs, while commodities suffered from chronic under investment. This has changed however, as the chronic underinvestment of the last years combined with the effects of the Covid lockdown, and most lately the war in Ukraine and climate change have led to very strong performance for commodity markets. We will focus on the key opportunities that commodities market present today, looking beyond the impact of the war in Ukraine and into the deglobalisation and energy transition themes that have emerged in the post pandemic world.
Workshop Objectives: The workshop will cover the key opportunities present in commodities markets in coming years. We will also cover the basics of commodity investing, and how commodity markets can be accessed today.

BIODIVERISTY LOSS – THE FOCUS FOR NEXT DECADES
The mindset of taking nature and its permanence for granted must reverse as human consumption and energy needs have severely altered 75% of the earth’s surface and 66% of the marine environment. We have been living out of sync with nature leading to one million species currently at a threat of extinction. At the same time, we depend on nature for our air, water, food, well-being and livelihoods with 50% of the global GDP estimated to be highly dependent on nature. The systemic risk posed by biodiversity loss to the financial system and our planet is already evident and our future depends on ensuring we have healthy ecosystems. Investors must play a key role and scale up financial flows to help reverse the loss of biodiversity.
Workshop Objective: National legislation and regulation requiring companies to assess their risks and dependencies on biodiversity and eradicate negative impacts is fast emerging. Investors will learn about the main drivers of biodiversity loss and how to identify the new winners or corporates that are helping preserve, protect and replenish biodiversity

The Year of Yield: Opportunities ahead in U.S. Fixed Income
2022 proved to be one of the worst years on record for many fixed income sectors. We believe that 2023 has the potential to offer investors total return potential not seen in fixed income in over a decade. The Nordea US Total Return Bond Fund takes a distinct approach to fixed income investing by providing investors a foundation of exposure to U.S. Treasuries and Agency MBS, while substituting corporate credit by a broad range of structured credit.
Workshop Objectives: Learn how the fund seeks to deliver strong relative returns while experiencing lower volatility than the benchmark by diversifying away from corporate-centric core fixed income portfolios.
Company Profile: Nordea Asset Management (NAM, AuM 237bn EUR*), is part of the Nordea Group, the largest financial services group in the Nordic region (AuM 341bn EUR*). Where is “Goldilocks”? Capitalizing on Volatility and Yields
We believe that Fixed Income is more attractive now than it has been in a long time - yields are the highest they have been since the Global Financial Crisis, and at the same time, we are in a period of heightened macro-driven volatility and increased dislocations across regions. Investment Director Diana Dengo shares how we are thinking about not only navigating the current environment, but looking to actively harness market dislocations to generate alpha for our clients.
Workshop Objective
We will discuss our views on the markets and how the Wellington World Bond Fund looks to not only take advantage of the current high yields in fixed income, but also actively benefit from market dislocations.

Tracing our history to 1928, Wellington Management is one of the largest independent investment management firms in the world. We are a private firm whose sole business is investment management, and we serve as investment adviser for institutional clients in over 60 countries.
