SELECTOR HARD TALK: The Davos Series
Global Growth, Fiscal Policy & Inflation- Balancing Opportunity and Risk
"We live in a world of more frequent, exogenous shocks and they will continue to come". Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF.
Caught amid heightened trade tensions and policy uncertainty, global growth is projected at just 3.1% for 2026, reflecting an increasingly unpredictable operating environment. Trade, traditionally a key growth engine, is expected to expand only modestly as existing rules are challenged and new ones remain unclear. While headline inflation is easing, core inflation stays elevated and global debt-to-GDP has reached a record 95%, leaving policymakers with limited fiscal and monetary space. The outlook will depend not only on managing near-term shocks but also on harnessing innovation to drive long-term productivity.
Overall, the WEF Chief Economists’ Outlook at Davos 2026 pointed to a resilient but fragile global growth environment, shaped by persistent uncertainty, elevated debt, and ongoing inflation pressures with many governments likely to rely on inflation and higher tax revenues to help manage debt burdens.
So in a world defined by volatility, debt pressures, and policy unpredictability, investors must weigh opportunity against heightened uncertainty and crucial questions arise…
- How is the current environment of slower growth, elevated debt, and persistent inflation reshaping your portfolio construction and fund selection priorities?
- To what extent are you increasing diversification across geographies, asset classes, and strategy types, including real assets, unconstrained bonds, or absolute-return approaches, to manage macro uncertainty?
- What’s the outlook for interest rates, bond supply, and duration risk in a world of heavy sovereign and corporate issuance from the fund managers you meet and invest? And how is this influencing fixed-income manager selection?
- How do you evaluate whether managers’ positioning, across style, duration, sectors, and company-level pricing power, reflects deliberate strategy rather than cyclical drift, and what risk disciplines do you expect during periods of heightened volatility?
Our panellists are:
Alberto Estévez Olleros, Senior Portfolio Manager at Santander Private Banking;
Jorge Hernández, Head of Investment Solutions at CaixaBank Asset Management;
Luiz Felix, Head of Global Asset Allocation from Santander Asset Management.

Powering AI: The Infrastructure Super-Cycle - Global Infrastructure equities for the grid build-out and rising power demand
Artificial intelligence, electrification and digitalization are driving an unprecedented surge in global power demand. Meeting this structural shift requires massive investment in energy generation, transmission networks, storage, and digital infrastructure. In this workshop, we explore how the infrastructure super cycle (fueled by decarbonization, grid modernization and data growth) is reshaping global capital expenditure. Through a disciplined, bottom-up global equity strategy, the Eurizon Fund – Global Equity Infrastructure invests in high-quality companies positioned to benefit from rising power intensity and long-term asset renewal. Combining structural growth drivers with resilient cash flows, inflation linkage and diversification benefits, listed infrastructure offers a compelling way to participate in the AI-driven transformation of the global economy while maintaining a balanced risk profile.
Workshop Objective:
To illustrate how rising AI-driven electricity demand and grid investment create long-term opportunities in global listed infrastructure, and how a disciplined equity strategy can capture this structural growth trend.

Unlocking Europe’s Alpha Potential though a Quant lens: the core of Europe CORE®
Europe's fragmented and diverse equity markets are marked by lower and dispersed informational coverage, creating inefficiencies from complex stock price relationships to a slower price discovery mechanism. We believe quantitative investment approaches are best placed to capitalize on these inefficiencies, transforming Europe's complexity into a systematic advantage to generate consistent, scalable alpha. In particular, we believe our proprietary data-driven process is well placed to capture these dynamic opportunities and navigate the related risks, by being diversified, differentiated, dynamic and in continuous innovation, backed by the scale and resources of Goldman Sachs. This ability is exemplified by the robust and consistent track record of our Europe portfolios, with low correlation to other managers.
Workshop Objective:
Illustrate market inefficiencies in Europe equity through a quant lens, and provide strategies to navigate this complex investment universe, leveraging a systematic data-driven process to seek consistent and scalable alpha.

The Current State of European Credit and the Opportunity Set
Global credit markets are entering a more complex phase of the cycle, characterised by rising dispersion, tightening refinancing conditions and structural shifts across several sectors. Technological disruption, particularly in software and knowledge-based industries, is beginning to challenge previously stable credit assumptions, while parts of the private credit ecosystem are showing early signs of strain. These dynamics are creating a more volatile environment, but also one where credit dislocations and forced selling may open attractive opportunities for investors focused on deep fundamental analysis and capital structure expertise.
Workshop Objective:
This session will examine how the evolving credit cycle is shaping the opportunity set in European special situations. In particular, we will discuss why Europe’s fragmented credit markets and relatively limited competition in smaller and mid-sized capital structures can create compelling entry points during periods of stress. Drawing on our experience investing across restructurings, dislocated secondary markets and post-reorganisation credits, we will outline how a disciplined, value-driven approach can identify attractive risk-adjusted opportunities as the cycle turns.
