Keynote Speaker

Hannah Pathak
Hannah is a leader in climate change, sustainability, and resilience, with an unusual breadth of experience from working with leadership teams in multinationals to design and implement strategy, through to leading field operations in humanitarian disaster response missions. This breadth enables her to understand both the strategic and operational challenges of tackling climate change and effective sustainability actions, from mitigation to adaptation and resilience building. She is particularly passionate about working with organisations and networks on navigating the dual urgencies of climate mitigation and adaptation, and about viewing climate risk through a lens of tackling converging vulnerabilities to build resilience, whether environmental or social. At Forum for the Future, she leads on implementing initiatives that transform global systems, using futures scenarios to understand the risks and opportunities that our likely future presents, and using systems change practices to help navigate complex challenges. At Rescue Global - an innovative and award-winning NGO working in disaster risk reduction and response worldwide - she led on partnerships that enabled life-saving humanitarian work. At Earthwatch, she led the world's largest and most extensive corporate/ NGO initiative in the environmental sustainability sector: the HSBC Water Programme, and the previous HSBC Climate Partnership. Since the start of her career, she has developed and managed cross-sector partnerships: with government agencies, corporates, militaries, academia, and NGOs.

Opportunities for Sustainable Investing in Emerging Markets
This presentation will look at the historic outperformance, characterised by strong dollar earnings, which has now been overshadowed by stagnation leading to a lost decade for emerging markets. Investment in sustainability is developing as a new global centre of gravity. Priorities are changing: from global, concentrated, and just-in-time sources of supply to local, secure and just-in-case. Emerging markets are better funded and more self-reliant, plus the valuation discount versus developed markets is as wide as it’s been for 20 years. We believe that emerging markets can play an important role in delivering on two key objectives: capital growth and positive environmental and societal progress. We will explore how our investment process looks to maximise the opportunities presented.

Global energy transition: Structurally challenged or an investment opportunity reset?
Energy transition equities have faced huge disruption over the few years. After beginning a long-term structural shift in the way we produce, distribute, and consumer energy with the rapid growth in demand for renewable power, electric vehicles, and green hydrogen, recent cyclical headwinds have put pressure on the short-term outlook for companies across the energy transition space. After exceptional performance during 2020, share prices and valuations across the energy transition universe have fallen sharply over the last two years, almost as if investors are starting to question the pace of the energy transition to come.
While we understand recent investor scepticism, we strongly believe that we have entered a long-term, structural growth period for energy transition equities that can continue to provide attractive investment opportunities as our energy transition unfolds. Although recent pressures have been painful, we believe they are short-term and cyclical in nature, and not something that threatens the long-term investment case. With valuations now back to pre-COVID levels and long-term earnings expectations still robust, the energy transition investment opportunity looks like it has reset.
To discuss the current dynamics impacting energy transition equities and to examine the earnings outlook and valuations for the companies across the energy transition value chain.

Growth investing for a sustainable world
Sustainable in both senses of the word – enduring growth and enduring good. That’s a noble aim against a backdrop of broken ESG investing - where backwards-looking, box-ticking approaches pervade, and broken growth investing - where innovation is dead and value is back in vogue. But that aim is indeed achievable for those that take a wide angle lens on sustainability. Portfolio Manager Toby Ross will discuss how the Baillie Gifford Sustainable Growth Fund harnesses powerful positive feedback loops to drive meaningful outperformance over the long term.
Workshop Objective:
1. What is the single best predictor of long term share price outperformance?
2. How can we reframe our thinking to see sustainable investing as a world of opportunities, rather than a downside protection strategy?
3. Can a business be impactful not just through its products or services, but its business practices too?
Company Profile: Baillie Gifford’s sole business is investment management. Since the company was founded in 1908 it has been a partnership. Today it is owned by 51 partners all of whom work in the business.
We currently manage or advise some £227.5bn on behalf of clients worldwide.

Time to consider an allocation to Sustainable Infrastructure?
Tommy Kristofferson, Fund Manager of the EdenTree Green Infrastructure Fund discusses the case for sustainable infrastructure and why now is a great time to invest in this $10 trillion global opportunity.
Tommy will also discuss how infrastructure is a genuine third asset class, providing diversification against inflationary headwinds and ongoing market uncertainty by investing in alternative sources of growth and income.
Given no two companies are the same, we believe the best way to access this market is to invest in a diversified and balanced portfolio of innovative companies providing solutions with positive environmental outcomes.
Workshop Objective: To provide an introduction to sustainable infrastructure and why investing in a diversified and balanced portfolio can help mitigate inflationary headwinds by investing in alternative sources of growth and income.
Company Profile: EdenTree is a responsible and sustainable investment manager with a strong heritage of delivering Performance with Principles. We serve the financial adviser community across the entirety of the UK, with dedicated regional sales directors providing exceptional levels of client support.
