Citywire Elite Companies Awards Methodology
Citywire Elite Companies showcases the most compelling investment cases among businesses traded on global stock markets.
To identify these companies, we focus on the world’s best portfolio managers - professional investors who have consistently shown they are the best in their field in selecting equities for their funds.
We refer to this exclusive group as the Equities Elite Portfolio Managers. They form the top 5 per cent of all active equities managers.
We then dig into their portfolios to pinpoint the Elite Companies that they have the most faith in – a conviction score, measured by how overweight they are against their benchmarks.
The top 5 companies* with the strongest conviction in one of 30 (31 in EMEA) key sub-sectors at the point of calculation are shortlisted, and the company with the highest conviction score wins an Elite Company Award 2023.

*some larger sub-sectors will have shortlists of 10 companies in the context of editorial and presentation of data online.
