Welcome to the Citywire Southern European Private Wealth & Family Office Retreat 2026
Building on the incredible energy and deep connections forged during our second edition, last year in Barcelona, we are delighted to bring the Citywire Southern European Private Wealth & Family Office Retreat 2026 to Italy in Rome, this November 26th-27th.
This bespoke gathering is uniquely tailored for the region's family office and private wealth professionals to exchange first-hand insights and ideas on portfolio strategies across an array of asset classes during the iconic closed-door fund manager workshops led by portfolio managers joining from the international landscape.
To elevate this third edition, we are debuting two new features designed with the ambition to generate further value for guests, matching individuals’ focusses: Friday morning will see a ‘short & sweet’ 1-to-1 speed date session, giving guests and portfolio managers the choice for private conversations they’d like to unpick further.
This year’s retreat will also see the inaugural landmark Family Office Masterclasses. Conceived as a long-term project designed with the broader pan-European community in mind, reserved to delegates, these off-the-record sessions will be led by senior figures from Family offices, serving as Thought Leadership Ambassadors, for peer-to-peer -level private exchanges around vertical topics - from complex family structures, governance, and other innovation pillars.

Where leaders across vertical pillars of innovation nurture firsthand knowledge and shared experience to create long-term value for Europe’s single and multi-family office community.
True strength isn’t built in isolation; it is woven through the profound human connection of shared journeys, mutual trust and respect. At the third edition of the Citywire Southern European Private Wealth & Family Office retreat, we are cultivating a dedicated sanctuary with the Thought Leadership Masterclasses: an environment where senior single and multi-family office figures from across Southern Europe gather to immerse themselves in an authentic, cross-border circle.
Sparked from conversations with professionals at single and multi-family offices across Europe, the long-term project of ‘Ambassadors in Thought Leadership’ and it’s masterclasses is born from the desire by Beatrice Mancini to invite towards a cultural shift, creating lasting value for the broader international community of peers, exploring the realities of handling the complexities of uniquely faceted family office structures and dynamics - from foundational governance to forward-looking, real-world investments – sharing and learning directly from firsthand experiences of those who walk the path. Reserved exclusively for the retreat’s delegates, these parallel, one-hour sessions remain strictly off the record to ensure private, genuine, functional exchanges.
The Masterclasses this November shall be themed and anchored by the honorary Ambassadors in Thought Leadership, including João Boavida, Investment Analyst, Tangor Capital (Portugal), on building an AI blueprint for Family Offices; Kevin Jacho, Head of Investments, NdB Family Office (Spain), on the new concept of ‘patient capital’ and 4 pillars of modern private markets allocation; Fernando López, Chief Investment Officer, Kai Capital (Spain), on preparing for when markets don’t cooperate and things go wrong; Antonio Liso, Portfolio Manager, Deimos (Italy), on cross-sector real estate transitions; and Orazio Di Miscia, Chief Investment Officer, Larry (Italy), on exploring longevity and practical tech shifts.
Thought Leadership Ambassadors:
Family Offices & conversations that cost: navigating family business succession
Moderator: Valentina Ferretti, FB Family Office
Speakers: Paolo Rovelli and Richard Watts, Nileus Leadership
Overview: The hardest moments in a family enterprise are rarely strategic, they’re conversational. What gets delayed becomes expensive: uncertainty over who leads next, unspoken doubts about capability, and assumptions that “the obvious successor” will step up. In this 50-minute session we’ll explore how Family Offices and boards can surface the truth early without damaging trust, reputation, or family unity.
Drawing on confidential work with multi-generation family businesses, we’ll use real succession patterns that often surprise even experienced owners. In one transition, the incumbent leader expected a clear outcome, until an objective assessment revealed the strongest next CEO was the youngest family member, working outside the business, who could be developed rapidly and supported through the handover. In another, the assumed heir was both unsuitable and unwilling to lead; structured coaching enabled an honest conversation with the founder generation and a clean exit that protected relationships and dignity.
We’ll also touch on the growth tension that follows succession: legacy vs. scale, control vs. delegation. Nileus Leadership’s approach is grounded in a simple principle—values only create value when translated into daily behaviours—so leadership standards remain consistent as the business expands across borders, teams, and generations.

An AI blueprint for Family Offices: Building the 360° Roadmap unpacking AI as a tool
In this bespoke, closed-door masterclass, João Boavida (Tangor Capital) will lead the discussion to look at how a family office can implement and integrate AI as a structural, 360-degree tool, in real-life. This masterclass centers on understanding how AI and software can be integrated across the various operational layers of a family office, spanning from high-level governance and privacy frameworks down to day-to-day investment research, software evaluation, and multi-custodial data look-through.
Unpacking and drawing a comprehensive operational roadmap from scratch, João will deliver concrete insights to navigate the AI frontier, offering a personal, first-hand tool set of best practices, designed to fluidly assist family office professionals navigating differing degrees of operational needs and focus areas. We will dive straight into the practical mechanics of everyday workflows, looking at and comparing software features to determine their impacts on staff efficiency and costs, while tackling the complexities of auditing the machine learning "black box" and deploying strict guardrails against shadow AI data leakages. Last but not least, of course, we’ll unpick how this space is becoming an asset class of its own, asking ‘what does it actually mean’ when talking about AI as an asset class?, decoding how to distribute capital across public tech equities, private venture capital, and physical infrastructure backbones like data centers and energy grids. While AI, its agents and tools evolve at lightning speed, this masterclass will leave you feeling amazed by the technology's vast potential, but also confident, equipped with precious real-life insights to actively approach and deploy AI within your unique ecosystem.

Longevity & New Ideas: capital learns to age well
For decades, finance looked at longevity as a row in an Excel spreadsheet: a rising life expectancy, a demographic pyramid turning upside down. An actuarial problem, not an idea. Today that perspective is obsolete. Living to 90 or 100 is becoming the norm, and around this norm an unprecedented economy is taking shape: an ecosystem where biotech, healthcare AI, personalized nutrition, adaptive real estate, lifelong learning and new forms of work converge into one great question - how do we live, and invest, in a longer span of time?
The point is not "selling products for the elderly." It is recognizing that a new generation of long-lived people is emerging - active, demanding, digital - refusing the label of old age and expecting services that match their standards. This is the real playing field: in the gap between what the market offers and what this population demands.
For finance, the challenge is twofold. The first is to recognize the longevity economy as a cross-cutting asset class, capable of moving capital on the same scale as the energy transition. The second, more uncomfortable, is cultural: stop thinking in quarters. A society that lives longer needs patient capital, strategies measured in decades, and returns that account for the quality of the time gained.
In this bespoke masterclass, Longevity & New Ideas, developed by Orazio Di Miscia, Chief Investment Officer at Larry, peers will be invited to look at this increasingly central theme from new angles, leading a conversation around how capital can fund a society that has learned to live longer - and now demands to live better. The finance that grasps this shift will not merely generate returns: it will help shape the way future generations grow old.

He is responsible for portfolio construction, manager selection, due diligence, and strategic asset allocation, with a particular focus on private markets, mutual funds, fixed income, and long-term capital preservation. His work combines rigorous investment analysis with a strong emphasis on liquidity management, governance, and efficient portfolio construction. In addition to his role at NdB, he collaborates with the Fundación de Estudios Bursátiles y Financieros (FEBF), contributing to discussions on investment strategy and the evolving role of family offices. Kevin holds the European Financial Advisor (EFA) and CESGA sustainability certifications and is passionate about helping family offices navigate the increasing complexity of private markets through practical, disciplined, and forward-looking investment frameworks.
The new concept of ‘patient capital’ and the 4 pillars of modern private markets allocation
Private markets are entering a new phase. The rapid expansion of secondary markets, the emergence of evergreen and semi-liquid structures, the evolution of ELTIF 2.0, and the growing importance of private credit and infrastructure are reshaping how family offices approach long-term capital allocation. At the same time, many investors are questioning whether the traditional illiquidity premium still justifies committing capital for ten years or more. Today, the challenge is no longer simply gaining access to private markets, it is building an allocation that remains resilient, efficient, and fit for purpose across different market environments.
In this interactive peer discussion, Kevin Jacho, Head of Investments at NdB Family Office, will introduce The 4 Pillars of Modern Private Markets Allocation, a practical framework designed to stimulate discussion around four key decisions every family office faces today. Together, participants will explore:
Liquidity: how to manage capital calls, distributions, liquidity planning, and the growing role of secondary markets; Access: how to choose the most appropriate investment structures, from traditional closed-end funds to ELTIF 2.0, evergreen and semi-liquid vehicles; Opportunity: where family offices are currently finding the most attractive opportunities, including private credit, infrastructure, and other long-term structural themes; The Illiquidity Premium: whether private markets continue to offer sufficient compensation for long-term capital lock-ups, why the gap between private and public market returns appears to be narrowing in some areas, and why manager selection has become more critical than ever.
As access to private markets becomes increasingly widespread, competitive advantage is shifting away from simply gaining exposure and towards identifying exceptional managers, constructing resilient portfolios, and making better long-term allocation decisions. Rather than providing theoretical answers, this confidential session will encourage an open exchange of experiences, challenges, and best practices among peers, leaving participants with practical ideas they can apply within their own family offices.

The New Face of Real Estate: Cross-Sector Strategies for Family Offices
Against a macroeconomic backdrop characterized by increasing uncertainty and new economic challenges, the combination of stable returns, diversification from traditional financial markets, and the ability to preserve capital during periods of volatility is redefining the role of Real Estate within family offices' asset allocation strategies. Real estate is no longer viewed merely as a defensive asset class but is increasingly emerging as a convergence point for major structural megatrends. The market is rewarding assets capable of capturing these new structural shifts, while obsolete and less efficient properties face growing penalties. Physical space is evolving and integrating with hospitality models, responding to demographic shifts linked to longevity, and playing a central role in the development of energy and digital infrastructure.
With this backdrop, investment professionals face increasingly complex strategic questions: how does one balance the liquidity offered by public markets through vehicles like REITs with the greater control guaranteed by Private Markets and Club Deals? Which segments - from logistics to living, from data centres to healthcare real estate - currently offer the best balance between cash flow visibility and growth potential?
Antonio Liso, Portfolio Manager at Deimos, will lead this thought leadership masterclass, unpacking this pillar to offer fresh insights into the role of this asset class today, sharing practical new angles to take away.

’Investing is easy’ - when markets cooperate. Preparing for when then DON’T
Direct mid-market investments and co-investment syndicates are the undisputed buzzword, not just among family offices but rapidly across investor segments worldwide. On paper, the financial models look flawless, the growth projections seamless, and the path to exit clear. But in real life, businesses rarely follow a spreadsheet. When market dynamics shift or a key contracts fracture, single and multi-family offices can quickly discover whether they are true "capital partners" or merely passive passengers in a colliding vehicle.
Led by Fernando López, CIO of Kai Capital, this masterclass strips away the polished veneer of traditional due diligence to introduce an eagle-eye lens to asset management. Drawing from first-hand experience steering high-stakes corporate transitions, board-level restructurings, and complex market friction points, Fernando will invite peers to look beyond theoretical asset allocation to address the ultimate private market challenge: cutting through financial engineering to diagnose a business's true operational health. Ultimately, this session will aim to spark actionable ideas on how to build a structured "safety net" – which one hopes never to need, but one which is vital to have if things go wrong.

Director, Nileus Consulting
Previously, Richard served for 25 years as an operational leader in the UK Royal Marines, where he commanded a Commando battalion and was a Brigade Chief of Staff on operations. He was personally decorated by H.M. The Queen in 2004 for inspirational leadership. In building Nileus, Richard has taken many behavioural and team lessons from his military experience to create models with a focus on empowerment to develop leaders and followers– in particular ‘tell me WHAT you want me to do, and WHY you want me to do it, but don’t tell me HOW to do it’.
