A Modern-Day Guide to Emerging Markets
Emerging market equities are experiencing a dynamic resurgence, fuelled by greater clarity in US trade policy, ongoing US dollar weakness, and robust earnings. With many of these factors still at large, rapidly brightening sentiment suggests this momentum could endure well into 2026.
Emerging markets are set apart by their distinct structural advantages: a youthful population, a growing base of middle-income consumers, and a leading role in future-facing industries such as artificial intelligence. Nowhere else can investors tap into these powerful trends at such compelling valuations and with clear potential for superior earnings growth.
With roots in emerging market investment stretching back to 1971, our suite of global, regional and country-specific strategies is designed to help investors access the opportunities presented by this diverse asset class.
Workshop Objective:
In this session we aim to challenge misconceptions, whilst exploring the tectonic shifts that are occurring within EM, in what remains an asset class which offers a broad scope of bottom-up investment opportunities.

The Case for Contrarian Investing
With investment style boxes increasingly unhelpful, MFS puts forward the case for a valuation-focused strategy, that's naturally contrarian and supported by the analysis of the MFS Global Research Platform. Paul Fairbrother explains how to create long-term value as markets change but human nature doesn’t and sentiment frequently creates a divergence between price and value.
Workshop Objectives:
-
Explore the Principles of Contrarian Investment - We will provide an overview of the key tenets of contrarian investing, including how market sentiment, behavioural biases, and valuation metrics influence decision-making.
-
Analyse Techniques for Identifying Mispriced Assets – We will discuss methods for uncovering investment opportunities that diverge from consensus views, using qualitative and quantitative indicators.
-
Assess the Role of Contrarian Approaches in Portfolio Diversification – We will discuss how a contrarian strategy can contribute to portfolio resilience, including their impact on risk-adjusted returns and long-term performance across market cycles.

Quality meets returns: Innovative approaches in the bond market
Since the European Central Bank has eased its monetary policy, returns on cash deposits have become increasingly unattractive. A dynamic allocation to a broader universe of high-quality bonds – consisting of covered bonds and government bonds – can allow investors to flexibly seize opportunities and achieve a more stable but attractive return potential. As bond markets are inefficient, we believe we can continue to create value through active management.
The Nordea 1 – Active Rates Opportunities Fund* - BI - EUR (ISIN: LU1915690835) offers investors an attractive alternative in the bond market. With a focus on credit quality and short duration, the portfolio has a low vulnerability to macroeconomic fluctuations. 1 Since its inception in 2019, the fund has proven its ability to generate stable returns even during volatile market periods. 2 For conservative investors, this fund offers a proven solution with the potential for smarter returns with controlled risk.1
*On 16.10.2025 the fund was renamed from Nordea 1 - European Covered Bond Opportunities Fund to Nordea 1 - Active Rates Opportunities Fund.
1 There can be no warranty that an investment objective, targeted returns and results of an investment structure is achieved. The value of your investment can go up and down, and you could lose some or all of your invested money.
2 The performance represented is historical; past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results and investors may not recover the full amount invested. The value of your investment can go up and down, and you could lose some or all of your invested money.
Workshop Summary:
We show how our fund can deliver performance that is less susceptible to fluctuations in the bond market than traditional fixed income strategies, regardless of the macroeconomic environment.1

High Yield – Rewarding the long-term investor
High yield (HY) investments present a compelling opportunity for robust performance. This presentation will explore the key drivers behind HY's attractiveness, including solid corporate fundamentals, a steepening yield curve, and favourable technical factors. We will demonstrate how an actively managed, diversified HY portfolio can offer above-average income with below-average volatility, making it a competitive fixed-income alternative. A key focus will be on alpha generation opportunities within HY markets, which are particularly relevant today due to increased dispersion across sectors and individual names. By leveraging these opportunities, investors can potentially enhance returns while managing risk effectively. Join us to discover why HY remains a gift that keeps on giving for discerning investors.
Workshop Objective:
To educate attendees on current high yield market dynamics, highlighting opportunities and risks. Emphasise how an active approach can effectively manage portfolio risk while maintaining exposure throughout market cycles.
