Panel One: Regional Perspective: Riding the rebound across ASEAN
After a challenging start to 2022, driven primarily by the war in Ukraine rather than the pandemic, how do the region’s leading banks view the rest of the year? With connectivity returning, ASEAN clients and their bankers expect an increase in cross-border investments and cross-market business. Is the recent UOB acquisition of Citi’s consumer banking franchise a harbinger of more M&A activity? What innovative partnerships between traditional and non-traditional financial institutions will come online? Will the next stage of ESG investing translate into more granular themes and impact investing? How will the return of inflation impact client demand and product flow throughout the coming year?
Moderator: Paris Shepherd, Managing Director, Asia, Citywire Asia

Capital Group: The power of dividend growers and high dividend yielders
Dividend growth can offer a measure of resilience against interest rate hikes and market volatility. Equally important is the ability to capture sustainable sources of income, particularly during a global growth slowdown. For more than 30 years, our global multi-asset strategy Capital Income Builder has navigated multiple market environments with a focus on delivering an average yield higher than US stocks and a growing income stream over time.

Panel Two: Malaysian Perspective: Re-opening to the world
Following the decisive victory for the Barisan Nasional party in the recent Johor vote, the timetable for the next national election in Malaysia may be brought forward. How will the expected return to more domestic stability impact the banking sector and client demand for offshore assets? What is the latest on the integration of ESG into Shariah-compliant formats? Technology, China and US focused assets were popular with Malaysian clients in 2021, will they continue to capture investor attention this year? Will real assets attract more attention in an inflationary environment? How will regulatory changes shape opportunities and access?

Panel Three: Thailand Perspective: The Kingdom is back
As pandemic restrictions lift, businesses throughout Thailand are keen to get back to work, welcoming tourists and easing supply chain bottlenecks. Domestic governance considerations have returned as the military leadership contemplates an earlier-than-expected reinstatement of elections. Foreign investment funds had another banner year in 2021, with the total net asset value of equity funds reaching a record THB 1.6tn ($42.7bn), a thumping increase of over 26% compared with the previous year. Global equity and China equity funds gathered the most assets, while locally-invested funds continue to underwhelm and shed assets. Where will investor demand be strongest this year and, in particular, how will the ESG investment mindset mature in Thailand? How will the emergence of new digital players and innovative tie-ups between traditional and non-traditional financial institutions impact the industry? As the most internationally accessible market in ASEAN, how will Thai regulation evolve to encourage further onshore/offshore business?
