Welcome to Citywire Athens 2023!
Following the success of the inaugural edition, we are proud to announce that Citywire will return to Athens on Tuesday 24 October 2023 to bring again a group of leading fund selectors together.
Like so much of the financial world, the business of investment selection is changing faster than any of us can remember. Providing an energising afternoon, portfolio managers and investors will meet and interact, before we wrap up with a quickfire panel session. A sharp, clean new format that makes the very best use of everyone’s time.
We very much look forward to welcoming you in Athens!

Adapting to a higher for longer world. The view from Athens...
The world’s central banks have unleashed the steepest series of interest-rate increases in decades during their two-year drive to tame inflation—and they may not be done yet. Policymakers have raised rates by about 400 basis points on average in advanced economies since late 2021, and around 650 basis points in emerging market economies. Most economies are absorbing this aggressive policy tightening, showing resilience over the past year, but core inflation remains elevated in several of them, especially the United States and parts of Europe. Major central banks therefore may need to keep interest rates higher for longer and, in this environment, risks to the world economy remain skewed to the downside.*
In this challenging environment, where are Selectors finding Value? What’s their biggest fear? In this new session, our guests will tackle all these burning issues sharing views, experiences and best practices.
Confirmed panellists:
Spyros Agrianitis, Head of Fund Selection, Alpha Bank
Dimitris Dalipis, Head of Fixed Income, AlphaTrust
Marietta Petropoulaki-Papasideri, Senior Portfolio Manager, Piraeus Asset Management

Credit Investing 2.0 – Back to the Future
Fixed Income investing has recently been characterised by low yields in the “cheap money” era of ultra-loose monetary policy. Times have changed; an unprecedented tightening cycle has seen carry return to the asset class. The “income“ in Fixed Income is well and truly back. But where we go from here is unclear. The next credit cycle will be marred by increased volatility and an uncertain macro and rates environment. We believe a contrarian and value-driven approach is vital to protecting and appreciating capital in this environment. Capital markets have evolved, and so must the way credit is managed.
Workshop Objective: How to generate equity-like returns with bond-like volatility: demonstrating that a contrarian, value-driven and nimble approach to credit investing is needed for better risk-adjusted returns.
Company Profile: We are an independent asset manager, overseeing investments across a range of equity, fixed income, alternative and multi asset products. We are over a 1000 employees, over 400 investment professionals, in 18 locations and we manage USD 284 bn (as of 12/2021)
We are part of the Pictet Group, an investment-led services group founded in Geneva in 1805 whose unique partnership structure has provided the stable foundation for our long-term thinking. We are active managers with a strong focus on valuation across equity, credit, sovereign debt and currencies. We are innovators, always seeking new sources of alpha. Risk management an integral part of our decision-making process.
