Citywire Private Markets Europe Retreat 2025
You’re invited to join Citywire Private Markets Europe Retreat, taking place February 13 and 14 at the Steigenberger Wiltcher's in Brussels.
Private assets are becoming a practical reality for selectors across Europe, whether through pensions upping their allocations, embracing Eltifs for private clients, private banks agreeing distribution deals or, as Citywire Selector has heard much of recently, a flurry of new fund of fund and multi-asset launches.
Frequently this involves an upskilling, with the job of selection falling to specialists or that expertise being brought into fund buying teams in other ways. The question of what makes a good private markets manager is now critical. With a large dispersion of returns, much responsibility now falls on the selection process.
Citywire is bringing together prominent private asset management firms to present their strategies and explain what they do.
During the two-day event, selectors will get the chance to sit down with fund managers and grill them alongside their peers. But it’s not all! As ever, the event will also feature two brilliant keynote speakers. One will reveal how to properly assess private market management skill, while the other will explain how teams can tackle a new challenge.
As ever, there will be plenty of time to network with fellow selectors from across Europe!
We very much hope that you can join us in Brussels!
Fund managers attending and workshop details will be revealed soon, book your place early and confirm your attendance.

A New Commodities Cycle? Generating Diversified and Differentiated Returns and Short Duration Income from Commodities Credit
The commodity sector is heavily underinvested, under-allocated and under-supplied with capital. Providing credit to commodity related corporates and sovereigns can generate high income within a short duration framework which is uncorrelated to the typical private credit sector. Infrastructure, deglobalisation and green capex could underpin a new commodity cycle driven by the demand for goods and materials necessary to meet the goals of these three trends. Gemcorp’s multi-strategy approach in commodities, unlike traditional commodity strategies, does not rely on futures or take directional bets on physical commodities. Rather, the Gemcorp Commodities Alternative Products Fund pursues a credit strategy that will benefit from a commodity uplift while providing a positive income stream within a semi-liquid fund structure.
Workshop Objective:
Learn about the asset class of commodities trade finance, its characteristics and how it can be used to help to achieve uncorrelated, short duration high income.

Understanding and Building Private Market Evergreen and Semi Liquid Funds
As momentum builds behind efforts to expand investor access to private markets, we explain why Evergreen and semi-liquid fund structures are well-suited to these asset classes. Additionally, we explain the rationale for constructing Private Equity focused Evergreen and semi-liquid portfolios on a foundation of direct investment, such as co-investments and GP Led secondaries, considering aspects like fees, transparency and strategic flexibility.

Siebe Vanhee
Having been born and raised in the relatively flat land of Belgium, Siebe’s journey to becoming one of the world’s most renowned big-wall climbers is all the more remarkable. Yes, Siebe spends much of his ‘work-life’ climbing steep and remote rock faces, in unforgiving conditions, in far flung corners of the globe.
Climbing such wild walls can involve staying on the rock face for several weeks before reaching the summit, obliging Siebe and his climbing partners to camp on the wall. What drives Siebe is his thirst for the unknown; where risks have to be taken, opportunities have to be found and not everything is under one’s control.
It’s easy to imagine that Siebe has a few tales to tell about his thrilling adventures and his learnings along the way. He will take you on an adventure fuelled by ambition, full of uncertainties but tackled with a good dose of humour and self reflection. Siebe’s talk pulls back the curtain on elite athletic performance and expose the human behind the climbs.
